  • emotional intelligence is born largely in the neurotansmitters of the brain's limbic system, which governs feelings impulses and drives.Research indicates that the limbic system learns best through motivation, extended practice and feedback.

口试内容参考 1. One thing is certain: Emotional intelligence increases with age. There is an old-fashioned word for the phenomenon: maturity.\ Well, it is a common phenomonoon, however I don't consider it a truth. Let's go back to the definition of EQ: how well we handle ourselves and relationships and its four domains(components):self-awareness,self-management,empathy,skilled relationship.\ When we say EQ increases with age, actually, we are referring to those life experiences such us navigating relationships, managing setbacks, reflecting on our choices that lead to the increase in EQ, not age itself.\ Age provides opportunities for experiences that can foster EQ growth, but it's neither a guarantee nor a universal rule. Building EQ requires effort mindfulness and intentional practice--qualities that are independent of physiological age.

  1. Imagine an executive who is thought to be low on empathy by her colleagues.Part of that deficit shows itself an inability to listen; she interrupts people and doesn't pay close attention to what they're saying. ...This statement suggests that for an executive, the ability to listen is highly needed.Do you agree? Do you think everyone needs the ability to listen? Why or why not?\

Yes, I agree that the ability to listen is essential for an executive, and more broadly, for everyone in any role or context.

For executives, listening is not just about hearing words but understanding the concerns, perspectives, and emotions of employees, clients or stakeholders.

What is the base of human civilization? Understanding and empathy must be one of them.

  2. It's important to emphasize that building one's emotional intelligence cannot -will not -happen without sincere desire and concerted effort. A brief seminar won;t help; nor can one buy a how-to-manual.\ What is sincere desire'' andconcerted effort''? What do you think is the author's intention of emphasizing the importance of sincere desire and concerted effort?\

``Sincere desire'' is not about just wanting to look better or appear emotionally intelligent, but rather a real, inner drive to develop self-awareness, manage emotions, improve relationships, and build empathy. It means that the person truly values emotional growth and sees it as something worthwhile for their personal and professional life.

``Concerted effort'' is not a passive or occasional attempt; rather, it involves a sustained commitment to practicing and applying the principles of EQ in everyday life. It requires intentional practice, the willingness to reflect on one's emotions and behaviors, and an inactive effort to learn and grow. For example, improving EQ might involve practicing active listeniing, managing emotional reactions, and working on understanding others' perspectives.

It highlights that developing emotional intelligence is not a quick fix or a one-time event; it is a continuous, evolving process.

  3. Mystery lives at charisma's heart, but it's a particular kind expressed by contradiction.\ Do you think an air of mystery is a result of contraditory behavior, or that of unfamiliarity on the part of audience, or even something else? Illustrate your opinion with examples.

I think the air of mystery surrounding charismatic individuals is not solely the result of contradictory behavior, but rather a combination of contradictory traits, unfamiliarity and perceived depth.--curiosity, there is much more beneath the surface, allowing for deeper emotional connections

Example: Someone who is both tough and tender, like a leader who can be demanding but also empathetic, can offer a more nuanced, interesting dynamic than someone who is consistently one way or the other.

At the core of human nature lies the presence of contradictions within ourselves—our feelings, actions, and thoughts are rarely entirely consistent. People tend to relate to others who display contradictions because they mirror the complexity and unpredictability of human experience. When someone exhibits contradictory traits, they may seem more "real" or "authentic" because they reflect the messiness and multifaceted nature of life.

  4. Charismatics display a need for love and affection. They are open to their audience, and in fact feed off its energy; the audience in turn is eletrified by the Charismatics, the current increasing as it passes back and forth.\ Do you agree with the author that vulnerability is a charismatic attribute? Why or why not?\

Though Charisma is often associated with confidence, strength, and decisiveness, but vulnerability--the willingness to show one's true self, including weakness or uncertainties--can actually amplify chraisma in a number of ways.

When someone is willing to show vulnerbility, they are often seen as more genuine. This aythenticity resonates deeply with people because it signals that the person is not hiding behind a facade, but is real and accessible.

Rather than being a weakness, vulnerability becomes a way for individuals to connect on a deeper emotional level with others. It signals authenticity, empathy, and the courage to show one's true self, all of which contribute to creating a magnetic, charismatic presence.

  5. Woh, I just think of some sentences suitable for any topics, that's so cool!

Let's start with our behavior. All those things we do in the objective world have two sources: those physiological responsea and our own will, and the latter is what we can talk about today. Except those physiological responses, all what we do is based on our will, namely what we want to do. Then comes the following question: what is that "want", and where does our "want" come from?

From my defition, "want" is the explicit expression of our three fundamental views. And originally they're created by the experiences we come through and our reflections based on our values.Ultimately, the source is our instinct condition such as our gene and our and our inborn sensors decided by our genes, and those experiences we come through.

This is why we say distinct environment creates different people. According to the scientific research, we humans live today possess the same genes as our ancestors thousands of years ago, nevertheless, our behaviors are absolutely different from those of our ancestors -- we human developed as a civilization, pushing tiny or big changes to the environment we live, also the environment our next generation grow and decelop, leading to a fantastic result: we human civilization developed as a vivid life, making progress constantly.

From a larger perspectve(Based on a long time period), we human evolve to the state that we are more likely to survive. However, the evolution based on natural selection is quite slow, unable to get along with the rapid changing needs of us today.--以此引申出各种人类先天就有的特点话题

Turning back to the individual, "want" is not a constant concept, it changes as we come through experiences……
